Greenwood could start for Man United vs Chelsea, says Solskjaer

Greenwood impresses for United

Mason Greenwood was handed his first taste of first-team football at Manchester United during the second-half of the 2018/19 season.

The striker made four appearances for United’s senior side, including a three-minute cameo vs PSG in the Champions League.

While Greenwood has yet to score for Man United’s main team in a competitive match, he has been very impressive for their under-18 side.

The 17-year-old has scored 34 and assisted nine in 34 appearances for United’s under-18s.

Greenwood vs Chelsea

After an excellent 2018/19, Greenwood is now being given the chance to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side through pre-season.

Greenwood has featured in both of United’s pre-season friendlies so far in 2019, starting against Leeds.

Man United would beat Leeds 4-0, with Greenwood opening the scoring in the 7th minute.

After said game, Solskjaer stated that Greenwood could start for Manchester United in their opening Premier League fixture of the 2019/20 campaign, vs Chelsea on August 11th:

“Mason has a chance to start against Chelsea [on Sunday, 11 August], definitely. He is more than capable.

“It is a good possibility if he keeps going as he does. It is difficult to keep players out who perform well.

“[I was] delighted with the goal he scored. That first goal is a weight off his shoulders. With his movement, cleverness, he’s going to be a very good player. He’s a natural footballer who can play anywhere along the front line.” As quoted by BBC Sport.
