Huddersfield beat Man United
It was a terrible Saturday for Man United.
The Red Devils deservedly lost 2-1 away at Huddersfield. Man United, as Jose Mourinho admitted after the game, didn’t show the right attitude to win.
Huddersfield’s win means Man City are now five points clear at the top of the table. And United’s job moving forward may have got even harder.
Mourinho has been losing players left, right and centre recently. Against the Terriers, Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were all out with injuries.
And now Phil Jones is added to that long list.
Phil Jones gets injured
Jones has struggled with injuries throughout the season. Indeed, the defender had to withdraw from the last England get-together as the Three Lions booked their place at next summer’s World Cup.
At Huddersfield on Saturday, Phil Jones need to exit the game after just 21 minutes.
He was replaced by Swedish international Victor Lindelof, who went on to make a shocking error for Huddersfield’s second goal.
What we know about Phil Jones
Manchester United have yet to release an official statement on how Phil Jones is doing.
That means that the only updates we have on Jones since the Huddersfield defeat has come from observations from journalists at the game.
The Daily Express painted a negative picture, reporting:
Defender Jones appeared to injure his leg while making a last-ditch tackle and as he walked down the tunnel, he told reporters he’d picked up a problem with his quadriceps.
Before limping off, the England defender was pictured punching the turf clearly frustrated at picking up the injury.
By the sounds of things, Jones has a thigh injury. That could easily keep the defender out of action for several weeks.
However the Manchester Evening News have announced how they saw Jones after the game:
Phil Jones appeared in reasonable spirits and walked unaided as he made his way out of the John Smith’s Stadium following Manchester United’s shock defeat to Huddersfield.
Jones was walking without grimacing and did not look too downbeat.
