Good news for Man City v Liverpool

Man City v Liverpool

The opening match in round four of the Premier League is a biggy.

Manchester City take on Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.

Both clubs have started the season with two wins and a draw in their opening three EPL fixtures.

But Liverpool are second in the table having scored eight goals in those matches.

Ilkay Gundogan is back

Manchester City fans could see German international midfielder Ilkay Gundogan return for the Liverpool game.

A few weeks ago, Gundogan made his Man City return to the pitch after eight months on the sidelines, coming on as a substitute during a friendly matchup with Girona.

26-year-old Gundogan has struggled with injuries throughout his career.

He has not appeared for Pep Guardiola’s side in the Premier League since December of last year, when he suffered a cruciate ligament tear in a win over Watford.

According to the Sun, Gundogan is poised to finally return to action. The Sun quotes a source, saying:

He is pushing hard for a first-team comeback. He’s played a few development games and friendlies.

His progress has been great and the coaching staff are delighted. Pep will take a closer look at him this week.

The medical staff will have a say, but he has fully recovered from his injury and it’s just down to his core fitness now.

He settled quickly at the club before his injury, and it’s just about getting him back on track to where he was.

Gundogan is unlikely to start against Liverpool, however.

Fernandinho looks set to play in the defensive midfield role in front of the defensive.

Worry for Vincent Kompany

While Gundogan’s on his way back, Vincent Kompany may miss the Liverpool game.

Kompany, who has been dogged by injuries throughout his career, picked up a knock on Belgium international duty.
