The Express is today reporting that Jasper Cillessen is very likely to leave Spanish giants Barcelona this summer which is excellent news for Chelsea who are eyeing Cillessen as a replacement for Thibaut Courtois should he move to Real Madrid.
Liverpool have also expressed their interest in Cillessen but now they have signed Allison they are likely no longer keen on the Dutchman.
‘The truth that is quite close’
Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has also admitted Cillessen is likely to leave this summer.
When asked about him leaving the Barca boss stated,
“The truth that is quite close, tomorrow will have to play.
“I cannot imagine another situation ahead of time. But I do not have a key to anything.”
Cillessen is a 29-year-old Dutch keeper who began his senior career in the Netherlands with NEC Nijmegen.
Cillessen made 35 appearances for NEC Nijmegen, keeping seven clean sheets in that time.
The Dutchman would then sign for Eredivisie giants Ajax in 2011 for a fee of just £2.9 million.
While at Ajax Cillessen would make 143 appearances for them, in which he kept an impressive 63 clean sheets.
This excellent shot stopping would earn him a move to FC Barcelona in the summer of 2016 for a fee believed to be around £11.7 million.
However, despite spending two seasons with the Catalonians, Cillessen has played just 21 games for Barcelona. He kept 11 clean sheets in those 21 games.
Cillessen is very much Barca’s back up keeper, though, because in his two seasons in Spain the Dutch keeper has made just two league appearances, with the majority of his appearances coming in the Copa del Rey.
Given that Cillessen still has his best years ahead of him and it is clear he is not going to be starting regularly for Barcelona, he could well be open to a move to Chelsea.
