Gomez & Matip ruled out for Liverpool vs Chelsea/Fabinho starts at centre-back

Chelsea vs Liverpool

Liverpool and Chelsea are set to face off at Stamford Bridge at 4:30 PM UK time.

You can check out 101’s betting tips for the clash here, or find out how to watch the game here.

Both sides head into the clash on the back of opening weekend victories, with Chelsea having seen off Brighton, and Liverpool getting the better of Leeds.

With the former having also spent big in the summer, meanwhile, both sets of fans will no doubt be expecting their clubs to challenge for domestic glory this term.

As a result, they will also be desperate to get one over on their rivals at such an early point in the season.

Gomez & Matip sidelined

As it customary, both Chelsea and Liverpool released their starting line-ups an hour before kick-off.

The hosts’ line-up did not feature too many surprises, with the injured Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic once again missing:

Liverpool’s squad, on the other hand, had a couple of surprise absentees.

At the back, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip were completely omitted from the Reds’ matchday squad, with Fabinho instead partnering Virgil van Dijk at centre-back:

The absence of both stoppers came as something of a shock, with Jurgen Klopp having not alluded to any fitness issues in his latest press conference on Friday.

However, it has since been revealed that Matip and Gomez are both dealing with minor injury problems:
