Leo Messi & Golden Shoe
For the past two seasons, Barcelona’s Leo Messi has won the Golden Shoe award.
The Golden Shoe is an award handed to the top scorer in league matches among the top divisions in Europe.
How does UEFA work out the rankings?
Goals scored in different leagues attract different amounts of points.
In the top bracket, goals scored in the top five UEFA coefficient leagues (currently Spain, England, Italy, Germany and France) are multiplied by a factor of two.
Goals scored in the leagues ranked six to 21 (which includes Portugal, Turkey and the Netherlands) are multiplied by a factor of 1.5.
In the remaining leagues, goals are multiplied by a factor of one.
PSG 4 – Dijon 0
It’s been a rough few weeks for PSG since they won the Ligue 1 title.
For example, PSG recently lost the French Cup final to Rennes.
However, on Saturday the Parisians returned to winning ways, thumping Dijon 4-0.
The match was effectively over for Dijon by the fourth minute, after PSG had already scored twice.
Angel Di Maria opened the scoring early doors, before Edinson Cavani headed home a second.
French World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe was back in the PSG side following his recent red card in the Coupe de France final.
Mbappe marked his return to the XI by scoring a brace. The attacker found the net either side of half-time.
Kylian Mbappe & Leo Messi
Leo Messi’s Golden Shoe award is under threat.
Messi is back in action for Barcelona on Sunday night in the Catalans’ final game of the season.
Barca travel to Eibar in the last weekend of the La Liga campaign.
Messi currently leads the Golden Shoe standings with 34 goals (68 points).
However, after Mbappe’s double against Dijon, the PSG forward has moved onto 32 goals (64 points).
Mbappe still has one match of the Ligue 1 season remaining. PSG take on Reims away from home next Saturday.

Mbappe & PSG stats
Mbappe is the first French striker to score 32 goals in a Ligue 1 season since Philippe Gondet did so for Nantes in 1965-66.
If PSG find the target against Reims next weekend, they’ll become the first club in Ligue 1 history to score in every match in a season.
