Gareth Bale’s move from Real Madrid to China is off

Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale won’t move to China

The BBC’s David Ornstein has broken the news on Sunday.

After a couple of days of reports linking Gareth Bale with a move to China, that deal is now off.

Put another way, as it currently stands, Gareth Bale will remain at Real Madrid for the 2019-20 season.

Why has Gareth Bale’s China move broken down?

David Ornstein has claimed that Real Madrid pulled the plug on the deal.

One can only assume that Real Madrid were unhappy with the transfer terms on the table.

UPDATE: The Telegraph’s John Percy has added more on why Real Madrid have rejected the offer for Bale:

Telegraph Sport understands Bale’s move to Suning… has broken down over demands made by Real Madrid, who are seeking a transfer fee for the 30 year old.

Real’s president Florentino Perez is also believed to be blocking the move as he believes Bale – who cost a then world record fee of £85 million in 2013 – is too valuable a player to let go on the cheap.

Was Gareth Bale happy to move to China?

One has to assume that Bale would have accepted the move to the Chinese Super League, had Real Madrid not rejected the deal.

On Sunday, many of the papers in Britain were reporting that Jiangsu Suning were offering Bale one million pounds a week.

A discussion of Bale’s situation at the Santiago Bernabeu on BBC 5 Live radio on Saturday night can be heard below.

To be clear, at the time of recording, Bale was thought to have been on his way to China.
