Gareth Bale’s agent moves to clarify Tottenham future comments: ‘He was taken completely out of context’

Gareth Bale’s representative has hinted that, despite his recent comments, the Tottenham loanee has not yet come to the definitive decision to depart the club at the end of the season.

Second Spurs stint

Welsh international Bale of course made the return to north London last summer.

On the back of another disappointing campaign in the Spanish capital with Real Madrid, Los Blancos decided that their one-time record signing would be allowed to depart on loan.

Spurs, in turn, swooped, in what was widely viewed at the time as a savvy piece of business on the part of Daniel Levy and co.

Bale’s time back with the Lilywhites, all told, has since proven something of a mixed bag, with the 31-year-old, at times, having been accused of looking altogether disinterested.

Recent weeks, however, have proven of a considerably more positive nature for Bale.

The Welshman appears to have earned the trust of Jose Mourinho, on the back of a hugely impressive stretch of 6 goals and 3 assists across 6 appearances between last month and this.

Staying put?

Such an upturn in fortunes has inevitably resulted in fresh speculation surrounding Bale’s future, amid suggestions that the attacker could now remain in north London beyond the summer.

As such, it came as something of a surprise when, earlier this week, the experienced winger revealed his intention to head back to the Bernabeu in the summer.

Bale’s comments were widely construed as something of a dig at Spurs, with the former Southampton man having explained:

‘The main reason I came to Spurs this year was to play football first and foremost.’

‘Going into the Euros I wanted to be match-fit. The original plan was to do a season at Spurs and after the Euros still have a year left at Real Madrid.’

‘My plan is to go back, that’s as far I have planned.’

But, as outlined above, if the latest update on the part of his agent is anything to go by, then Bale may in fact have simply been misunderstood.

Speaking in a follow-up interview with ESPN (as cited by the Evening Standard) this weekend, Jonathan Barnett insisted that it remains ‘too early’ for his client to come to a decision on his future.

Barnett went on to add that the Tottenham star’s aforementioned comments were ‘taken completely out of context’, before telling BBC Wales that ‘he is just concentrating on now’.
