Gabriel Martinelli pens new Arsenal deal/Mikel Arteta assures Ozil will ‘always have a place’ with Gunners

Premier League giants Arsenal have this evening confirmed the news that Gabriel Martinelli has put pen-to-paper on a new contract with the club.

Arsenal switch

Versatile attacker Martinelli only made the move to the Emirates last summer, from his home country of Brazil.

With Arsenal having also secured the high-profile additions of the likes of Dani Ceballos, Kieran Tierney and Nicolas Pepe, though, Martinelli’s arrival slipped somewhat under the radar.

The campaign to this point, however, has arguably seen the South American prodigy stand out as the most consistent of the Gunners’ latest batch of summer signings.

Despite his tender years, Martinelli already looks a genuine star in the making.

The youngster possesses all of the desirable traits of a modern attacker, combining touch, stature, poise, pace, the ability to beat opposing defenders and, perhaps most-significantly of all, a real eye for goal.

This has allowed Martinelli to directly contribute to a remarkable 10 goals across 9 appearances between the League Cup and Europa League to this point in the season.

In addition, crucially, he began to carry his goalscoring exploits onto the Premier League stage earlier this year, with key strikes versus the likes of Sheffield United and Chelsea.

Martinelli staying put

As such, despite having only turned 19 last month, it is understandable that many have already tipped Martinelli to reach the very top of the game.

And, as outlined above, as the Brazilian continues his path towards stardom, at least for the time being, he will do so in Arsenal’s colours.

In an announcement across the club’s website and social media platforms a short time ago, the Gunners confirmed that they have tied Martinelli down to a new long-term deal:

‘Gabriel Martinelli has signed a new long-term contract, securing his future with the club.’

News of Martinelli’s fresh terms of course comes just 48 hours after fellow starlet Bukayo Saka also opted to extend his stay in north London:

Ozil latest

In other news surrounding one of Arsenal’s key attackers tonight, meanwhile, Mikel Arteta has moved to reassure Mesut Ozil of his importance at the Emirates.

Speculation surrounding the future of German playmaker Ozil has reemerged in force of late, with the 31-year-old having failed to feature in any of his side’s outings since the resumption of English football last month.

Arteta, though, appears to remain fully convinced of what Ozil can bring to the table when fit, with the Spanish tactician having this evening assured that there is ‘always a place’ for a player of the midfielder’s quality at Arsenal:

‘I think players can adapt to different systems and we can adapt systems for different players.’

‘Sometimes it’s not just about what we want to play or how we want to play. Sometimes we have to try to fit the players we have available in the right moments in the right positions to perform and be comfortable on the pitch to do what we require them to do.’

‘There’s always a place for a player of his [Ozil’s] quality.’
