Further doubt cast over Ilkay Gundogan’s Man City future

Gundogan’s time with Man City

Ilkay Gundogan joined Manchester City in 2016 from Borussia Dortmund.

The German has since gone on to make over 100 appearances for the Citizens.

In those games, Gundogan has scored 16 and assisted 16 for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Gundogan has also played 39 times across all competitions this season for City.

However, the 28-year-old is now edging close to the end of his current contract that expires in July of 2020.

Gundogan’s contract situation

Gundogan has, a few weeks ago, spoken out about his future at Man City. But it didn’t sound like he was too convinced he would stay:

“I would say we are still in talks, but there is no pressure. One day there has to be a decision but I’m very happy at the moment here, especially playing under Pep, and that’s the most important thing now.”

Now, according to Goal, Gundogan has put any sort of talks on hold with Manchester City.

It is believed that Gundogan isn’t willing to sign a new deal as he is unconvinced he will get enough first-team football next campaign.

If Gundogan does not sign a fresh deal soon, Man City may have to sell him in the upcoming summer window.

If they do not, they could risk him signing a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January of 2020 and then losing him for free in July of 2020.
