Fulham eyeing loan move for Liverpool’s Nathaniel Clyne

Fulham’s defensive struggles

Newly-promoted Fulham are having a rough start to life back in the Premier League.

They are currently dead bottom of the league and look set for a relegation battle come the end of the season.

Fulham’s biggest problem this campaign has been their defensive issues.

In 14 Premier League games this season Fulham have let in a staggering 35 goals, the worst defensive record in the league by some way.

Fulham did pick up a win in Claudio Ranieri’s first game in charge as Fulham boss last weekend.

They would beat Southampton but even in that game they still conceded two to a side that does not score that many goals.

Fulham then took on Chelsea on Sunday the 2nd of December and would once again let in two goals.

Clyne’s lack of game time

As a result, Fulham will likely want to strengthen their defence in the 2019 January window.

According to The Sun, one defender Fulham want to sign in January is Liverpool’, Nathaniel Clyne.

Ranieri is said to be a fan of Clyne and wants to sign the right-back on loan for the remainder of the season.

Given his recent lack of playing time, Liverpool may well be open to allowing Clyne to leave on loan in order to boost his match fitness.

Clyne joined Liverpool in 2015 from Southampton for a fee of around £15.5 million.

Clyne has gone on to play 99 games for Liverpool, scoring two and assisting five.

However, the 2018/19 season has seen Clyne make just one appearance for Liverpool.

That came against Chelsea as Liverpool lost 2-1 in the League Cup.
