Fulham close in on signings of Martin Montoya and Sergio Rico

According to reports in both the Spanish and English medias this afternoon, Premier League outfit Fulham are set to announce their latest pair of signings imminently.

Experienced stopper

The Cottagers have already been extremely active in the transfer market this summer, impressing with the arrivals of the likes of Jean Michael Seri, Andre Schurrle and Alfie Mawson.

And, as per a report from Marca a short time ago, Valencia defender Martin Montoya is set to be one of a minimum of two deadline day arrivals at Craven Cottage over the coming hours.

Montoya, a versatile defender who is generally deployed as a right-back but can also fill in on the left when needed, came up through Barcelona’s youth academy, before making the move to Valencia two years ago following 16 years on the books of the Blaugrana.

And the 27-year-old has since gone on to play an important role for Los Che, racking up 50 La Liga starts over the last 2 campaigns.

But, as per Marca’s report this afternoon, Montoya will nevertheless be on the move over the coming hours, amid claims that the stopper missed training earlier today due to being ‘en route to the English capital to undergo examinations and pen his contract.’

Shot-stopper

And, as per a further report from Sky Sports News, Montoya will not be the only player making the move from La Liga to Craven Cottage this afternoon, with Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico also on the verge of joining Fulham.

Rico, a highly-regarded 24-year-old shot-stopper, has spent his entire career to date with Sevilla, having come up through the club’s youth ranks and broken into the Andalusian outfit’s first-team in 2014.

After standing as the club’s clear first-choice between the posts during both the 2015/16 and 2016/17 campaigns, Rico was challenged by David Soria last season, and, despite the former having still started 23 La Liga fixtures, he has seemingly been deemed surplus to requirements at the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium this summer (following Tomas Vaclik’s arrival from Basel), with Rico now on the verge of completing a loan move to Fulham:
