One of the most talented free agents around, Wesley Sneijder is probably talking to a lot of clubs right now. But the club that the 33-year-old Holland legend looks closest to joining is in Ligue 1, Dutch site VI reports.
OGC Nice have been in touch with Sneijder to inform him of their interest. Other clubs rumoured to be chasing Sneijder are Eredivisie side Utrecht, the midfielder’s hometown club, and new MLS side Los Angeles FC.
Sneijder can expect a big signing-on fee after buying himself out of his Galatasaray contract for €4.5 million.
Shrewd transfer business
Nice have proved themselves to be shrewd operators in the transfer market in recent years. In successive summers, they picked up Hatem Ben Arfa and then Mario Balotelli, both fading stars who were rejuvenated by the club.
While Ben Arfa moved to PSG, Balotelli scored in Nice’s 1-1 draw against Ajax in the first leg of their Champions League third qualifying round tie. He scored 17 goals in all competitions for the club last season.
