Fred rewarded for upturn in form with Man United POTM award

Manchester United have confirmed that midfielder Fred has clinched the club’s Player of the Month award for January.

United’s hit-and-miss January

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men played out 9 fixtures over the course of the first month of 2020.

Results-wise, it proved a largely mixed bag for the Red Devils, as the Manchester giants managed 5 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats.

They were also ousted from the Carabao Cup at the semi-final stage by Manchester City, with United having since started out February with a disappointing home stalemate versus Wolves.

Fred rewarded

One member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad to have largely-impressed despite United’s January inconsistencies, though, was Fred.

On the back of an underwhelming debut campaign in England on the back of his arrival at Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2018, Brazilian midfielder Fred has finally begun to showcase his talents over recent months.

Impressively, Fred has not missed a single minute of the Red Devils’ Premier League campaign since the end of September.

He also featured in all 9 of United’s outings last month, impressing versus the likes of Liverpool and Norwich.

And, as outlined above, the 26-year-old has today been rewarded for his upturn in form with a fan-voted award.

Fred has been named the club’s Player of the Month for January, having garnered a hefty 51 per cent of over 110,000 votes cast.

The gifted South American’s closest rival for the accolade was youngster Brandon Williams, who notched 23 per cent of the vote, with Harry Maguire and Nemanja Matic having finished 3rd and 4th respectively.
