Frank Lampard provides Hakim Ziyech injury update

Frank Lampard has moved to provide an injury update on one of Chelsea’s new signings, Hakim Ziyech.

Chelsea vs Brighton

The Blues confirmed the signing of Ziyech back in February, with the former Ajax man having eventually joined up with his new teammates on July 1st.

And, after spending a couple of months getting to know his new teammates, Ziyech finally lined out in Chelsea’s colours for the first time yesterday afternoon.

Frank Lampard’s men faced off against fellow Premier League outfit Brighton, in their first pre-season outing of the summer.

Whilst Chelsea were not at full strength, with the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic absent, the attacking depth in the club’s squad meant that Frank Lampard was still able to call upon new boys Timo Werner and Ziyech versus the Seagulls.

And the duo went on to play a major part in Chelsea’s only goal of the day, as Ziyech whipped a lovely ball to Callum Hudson-Odoi, whose header was then met by Werner, with the German having had no issues finding the back of the net.

Lampard on Ziyech

Chelsea eventually drew the clash 1-1, though results at this stage of the campaign of course mean very little, with Lampard no doubt just pleased to have seen some of his new additions fit seamlessly into his side.

One slight negative for Chelsea on Saturday, however, was the fact that Ziyech picked up a knock during the tie.

And now, as mentioned above, Lampard has provided an update on the midfield creator.

After praising both Werner and Ziyech, Lampard went on to confirm that the latter has a ‘knock on his knee’, which will need to be assessed:

“I thought his [Werner’s] work rate and everything about him was a great little start for him and Hakim Ziyech the same, some of his contributions and passing and quality levels were great. He has a bit of a knock on his knee, a little bit of a small twist which we will have to assess, hopefully it is not too bad, but in the performances they were both really good.”
