Frank Lampard insists it will take time & patience to maximise Timo Werner’s talents at Chelsea
Frank Lampard has called for patience when it comes to Timo Werner’s stint at Chelsea.
Fulham vs Chelsea
Chelsea will return to Premier League action this coming weekend.
The Blues had of course been in pretty dire form of late, but were able to pick up a much-needed win over lower-league outfit Morecambe in the FA Cup at the weekend.
Whilst their drubbing of Morecambe should hand the Londoners some confidence, though, they really need to turn their Premier League form around as soon as possible.
Chelsea are currently all the way down in 9th spot in the English top-flight, a staggering 10 points adrift of table-topping Manchester United, having picked up just one win from their last four outings.
Fulham, though, on paper at least, should provide Frank Lampard’s men with a good chance of getting back on track.
Scott Parker’s side have won just two league games all season, and, unlike Chelsea, were in action in midweek, meaning they should be a lot more fatigued than the Blues on Saturday.
Lampard on Werner
Ahead of his side’s meeting with Fulham, meanwhile, Frank Lampard held his latest pre-match press conference on Thursday.
The Englishman discussed a number of topics during the presser, including squad fitness and Fikayo Tomori’s future, which you can read more about here:

Lampard was also drawn, though, on Timo Werner during the media exchange.
The German, who arrived at Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig over the summer, has endured something of an underwhelming start to life in England.
Werner did manage to find the net vs Morecambe, but has struggled in the Premier League of late.
When drawn on what he has made of his big-money summer addition’s performances when utilised through the middle rather than out wide, though, Lampard was keen to plead for patience from fans and the media alike:
“With Timo through the middle, is clearly a position he likes to start from. With Leipzig and Germany he played centrally, from the left, as a lone striker, and as one of two strikers. So there is definitely room for manoeuvre in how you use TImo.
“We are, and I pride myself on this as a manager, a good hard-working team off the ball which means a lot of high pressure. And it’s very normal for Timo and the other forward players who have come in that it will take some time to get used to my ideas and their teammates’ ideas.
“We haven’t had time on the training pitch for that. That can only be done at full pace in training, to work on the high press. That’s why the last two weeks have been really useful. “I think his performances have been pretty good and I think they will get better the more he works with his teammates.”
Lampard added:
“Everyone has to be patient, though. We will maximise Timo’s talents in this team. And that’s a two way street of his work and our work. It will take time.”
