Frank Lampard earns Diego Simeone comparisons during Everton's clash with Liverpool


 

Viewers of the clash between Liverpool and Everton have flooded to social media on Sunday evening, to draw comparisons between Toffees boss Frank Lampard, and one of European football's most infamous tacticians.

The latest edition of the Merseyside Derby is of course currently in the process of playing out at Anfield.

Amid a crucial clash at both ends of the Premier League table, it should therefore come as little surprise to hear that the action has proven of an altogether fiery nature thus far.

Goalscoring chances, in truth, have been few and far between.

But drama has nevertheless flowed throughout, with dives, crunching challenges, player scuffles and even a back-and-forth between the two managers having dominated the first-half headlines.

Central to such fracas, altogether unsurprisingly, have been Everton's stars.

Having evidently come to the conclusion that they would not be able to compete with their Liverpool counterparts from a purely footballing perspective, the Blues have done a fine job of eliminating any form of flow from the clash, by means of the game's 'dark arts'.

And such antics, as alluded to above, have since culminated in comparisons being drawn between Frank Lampard and none other than the master of the dark arts, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone:
