Franck Ribery & Sheffield United
Could this be the craziest transfer rumour of the summer so far?
According to German outlet Kicker, Franck Ribery could join Sheffield United this summer.
Of course, Sheffield United are back in the Premier League in 2019-20, having secured promotion after finishing second in the Championship.
This will be the first time that the Blades have played top-flight football since their relegation in 2007.
Here’s what Kicker say about Ribery & Sheffield United
According to Kicker, it’s still unclear where Franck Ribery’s future lies.
Ribery, now 36, is a free agent after his Bayern Munich contract expired at the end of last season.
Kicker report that Ribery has had offers to move to Australia and Qatar, “but both destinations are not necessarily the first choice for him.”
Cue links to Sheffield United. However, Kicker fail to make it clear whether the Blades have actually contacted the former French international.
As such, Sheffield United fans should be advised to temper expectations of seeing Ribery play at Bramall Lane for now.
What does Ribery want?
Kicker also note that Sheffield United may not be a high-profile enough club for Ribery. Readers are told:
Ribery still has the ambition to be involved with a major European club. His future, therefore, remains open for the time being.
For the record, the Mirror claim that the Ribery rumour is wide of the mark.
Am hearing from Bramall Lane that they are not trying to sign Franck Ribery and are somewhat baffled to be linked with the France star. #SUFC
