FPL fans take note: Riyad Mahrez stars in Man City’s latest pre-season win whilst English duo remain absent

FPL fans take note: Riyad Mahrez stars in Man City’s latest pre-season win whilst English duo remain absent

Man City & FPL

Given their dominance under Pep Guardiola throughout the last several years, you would assume that Manchester City have a number of top Fantasy Premier League assets.

And whilst this is true to an extent, picking a Man City player for your FPL side can be something of a risk.

The main reason for this is that Pep Guardiola rotates his squads quite a lot, leading to the phrase ‘Pep roulette’ being coined in the FPL community.

So, whilst many players may want to add City stars to their FPL team, picking the right ones can often prove something of a nightmare.

Mahrez shines vs Blackpool

Heading into the 2021/22 campaign, however, there does look to be one standout Man City FPL asset.

That man is Riyad Mahrez, who is currently priced at 9.0m on the game. And whilst the Algerian starting all 38 of City’s league games this season does seem unlikely, he should be a nailed-on pick for the Sky Blues’ early fixtures this term.

The reason for this, in part, is due to the majority of City’s attackers having spent the summer representing their countries at Euro 2020 or the Copa America.

Gabriel Jesus made it to the final of the former, whilst Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Ferran Torres all took part in the Euros.

And, on Tuesday evening, as Man City saw off Blackpool in a pre-season friendly, all of Jesus, Sterling, Foden, Torres and De Bruyne remained absent from the matchday squad.

Mahrez, on the other hand, started the game and was one of the standout performers, netting City’s second of the day and then providing the assist for Ilkay Gundogan’s effort.
