Former West Ham striker Sebastien Haller matches record held by Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo

Former West Ham striker Sebastien Haller matches record held by Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo

Ajax vs Sporting

Ajax would play out their final Champions League group outing of the season on Tuesday evening.

The Dutch powerhouse played host to Sporting in a tie they had nothing to play for in.

Ajax had won five of their previous five CL group games this term, meaning they had already qualified for the knockout rounds and secured top spot in their group.

Despite this, Erik ten Hag still fielded a strong eleven, including former West Ham striker, Sebastien Haller.

Haller has enjoyed a prolific European campaign this season and, after netting vs Sporting, became the quickest player to reach 10 goals in the Champions League:

Haller matches Cristiano Ronaldo record

Elsewhere, Haller matched a record previously only held by Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

As per Opta, Haller has become on the second player in Champions League history to score in all six matches of a single group stage.

The other man to do so was Ronaldo in the 2017/18 campaign:

Sébastien Haller is only the second player in UEFA Champions League history to score in all six matches of a single group stage, after Cristiano Ronaldo in 2017-18. Remarkable.

Haller has also now scored as many CL goals this season as he did in all of his time at West Ham – a stat Hammers’ fans are probably eager not to see again.
