Former Man United scout confirms Red Devils turned down chance to sign Chelsea’s Pulisic

Jorge Alvia, one-time scout at Manchester United, has revealed that, despite persistent recommendations, his former employers opted against swooping for now-Chelsea star Christian Pulisic.

Blues starlet

21-year-old winger Pulisic signed for Chelsea in January of last year, before linking up with his new teammates in the summer.

And, despite his tender years and a couple of rocky patches, the former Dortmund man has since gone on to thoroughly impress during his debut season in England.

Recent weeks, in particular, have seen Pulisic begin to showcase what a special player he could eventually develop into, with the attacker having terrorised Premier League full-backs with a stellar combination of pace, quick feet and, crucially, finished product.

All told, across 33 appearances in all competitions this season, Pulisic has racked up a very respectable 10 goals and 10 assists.

So impressive have some of the American’s displays been, in fact, that he has drawn early comparisons to Chelsea legend Eden Hazard.

‘Sign this kid’

As such, with a full season in England now under his belt, Pulisic will be expected to kick on to even greater heights over the years to come, amid the widespread agreement that Chelsea have bagged themselves a genuine star in the making.

However, as outlined above, if another of the Premier League’s heavyweights had opted to move more quickly, it could have been they, and not Chelsea, currently availing of the talents of one of football’s most exciting prospects.

The outfit in question? Manchester United.

Speaking earlier today, Jorge Alvia, a former scout at Old Trafford, revealed that he had tipped Pulisic for superstardom during the winger’s early years with Dortmund.

This, in turn, saw Alvia urge the Red Devils to make a move, with the ex-United man having gone as far as to seek out the club’s head scout to personally recommend Pulisic’s signing:

‘When I first got hired one of the people that I recommended right away was Pulisic because I knew him and his background,’ Alvia explained during an interview with the Manchester Evening News.

‘I knew how well he was developing in Dortmund and he was just going to keep coming up, and become a superstar because he was doing very well.’

‘I have always believed in him, we always have kept close contact with his father, and I called him to say I was recommending him to Manchester United.’

‘So it was many times that I did recommend him, but at the same time because I was only doing North America, it wasn’t my region because he was playing in Germany. We all had a list of targets and I had him first along with Alphonso Davies.’

‘Highly, highly recommended for them to sign him, and I know also the German scout was very into him, he really liked him too.’

‘It wasn’t a case of ‘look at this kid’, it was ‘sign this kid’.’

‘When I recommend a player usually it is an example of a player that I feel has tremendous potential.’

‘For Pulisic I jumped many levels that we are supposed to do and I went directly to the head scout and said: ‘Listen, this player is extraordinary we need to see him right away and we need to make a decision right away because if we don’t someone else is going to see him, and is going to beat us,’ which has also happened with Alphonso (Davies).’
