Busying himself with schadenfreude
Louis van Gaal looks set for his first coaching role since being sacked by Manchester United. The Dutchman was let go by the club at the end of last season. He won the FA Cup but missing out on the top four cost him his position. While he must be relishing the troubles Jose Mourinho is facing at the minute, schadenfreude can only keep him busy for so long.
The Hamburger Abendblatt claim that Van Gaal could return to the Bundesliga. He’s been reportedly speaking to Werder Bremen. Anchored to the bottom of the table, Werder sacked Viktor Skrypnyk earlier in the week. Van Gaal had previously coached in Germany when he was the manager of Bayern Munich.
He won a league and cup double with the club before being sacked the following season.
Van Gaal had previously said that the United job would be his last position he would take in his coaching career. But the manner in which that ended would understandably have left him unsatisfied.
