Former Liverpool striker urges Reds to move for Fulham pair

Once-prolific Liverpool hitman John Aldridge has today revealed his opinion that his former club should move for a pair of Fulham stars in the near future.

Liverpool’s season

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have enjoyed a solid if unspectacular start to the season.

The Merseysiders currently sit two points off Premier League table-toppers Manchester City, and joint-top of Champions League Group C.

However, while, on the face of it, this sounds like an altogether-impressive opening 3 months of the campaign, the truth is that Liverpool have  largely-failed to hit the heights of the sensational form they so-often displayed last season.

The fearsome front-3 of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have simply not been firing on all cylinders, while the Reds’ last two showings, in a shock 2-0 defeat at the hands of Red Star Belgrade and too-close-for-comfort victory over Fulham, have proven particularly concerning for the club’s fans.

‘Reignite their interest in Ryan Sessegnon’

As such, there have been murmurs in the media that Jurgen Klopp could look to add some fresh faces to his squad in January.

And one former Liverpool star has today revealed his opinion that a pair of players who showcased their talents as visitors to Anfield this past weekend would stand as ideal additions for the Reds.

Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, John Aldridge earmarked Fulham duo Ryan Sessegnon and Aleksandar Mitrovic as two individuals capable of making an instant impact on Merseyside:

‘Fulham might be struggling at the bottom of the Premier League but a couple of their players really caught my eye on Sunday. And I wouldn’t mind Liverpool coming in with a bid for either of them.’

‘They weren’t the worst team that’s come to Anfield this season by a long way.’

‘They created three good chances and looked to have a bit of a go. And on this showing I fail to see why they’re bottom of the league.’

‘Andy Robertson has been an absolute revelation since he came to Anfield and solved the long-standing left-back issue. But I’d still like Liverpool to reignite their interest in Ryan Sessegnon. He can play in that position but was being deployed further up the left flank against the Reds.’

‘He’s still only 18 but has almost played 100 senior games already.’

‘I know a lot of clubs are interested in him but he can play at either full-back or in midfield and you can see he’ll go far that lad.’

‘Someone who provides a Plan B’

‘I was also impressed with Aleksandar Mitrovic. He’s the type of player you’d want coming off the bench. He’s big, strong and scores goals.’

‘He gives you something that little bit different and I like him as a squad player.’

‘The way Liverpool play they could do with someone who provides a bit of diversity and a Plan B.’

‘Maybe it’s not Mitrovic himself, but I think they could really benefit from having someone like that – a target man who can bring others into the game.’
