Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has lavished praise on forward Diego Costa, and noted that the forward had his best game since going back to the club.
He hit the ground running for the club, but after basically not playing football for six months, the sharpness took a little while to return, and now his manager thinks that Costa is back to his best and is a machine when he’s on top form – something Chelsea fans would agree with.
Goal report he said:“This was his best game since he came back with us, he’s a beast, he was running all the time, putting pressure on the opponent, breaking his mark,
“He participated in both of the goals, played great with the team, a very good game, his best game since he came back.
“Well the thing is that you can never take something for granted in these tournaments. We’re used to seeing games in these kind of tournaments that should be calm but they’re not because the teams are motivated and we saw that anything can happen in football. It’s true that 2-0 is an important score but we need to play the second leg the same way we played here today.
“I think that goal a few seconds after kick-off was the result of our will to go for the win from the first second.”
The replacement for Costa, Alvaro Morata, has struggled badly this season at times and the Chelsea board are believed to be losing patience with the player, who they think isn’t good enough to take them to the next level.
Once again, the Blues have gone from winning the title to failing to make the top four and it will be all change with a clear-out in terms of playing staff and the management this summer – and whoever comes in will be tasked with getting the best from Morata.
