Former Arsenal starlet Serge Gnabry named Bayern Munich’s Player of the Season

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have this evening announced that former Arsenal man Serge Gnabry has been voted as the club’s Player of the Season for 2018/19.

Gunners’ stint

Explosive wide-man Gnabry was on the books of Premier League giants Arsenal from 2011 to 2016.

After joining the north Londoners as a raw youngster from Stuttgart’s youth academy, much was expected of Gnabry.

However, after finding game-time increasingly hard to come by as the years passed, including during a loan spell with West Brom, the German international eventually made the decision to depart the Emirates on a permanent basis in the summer of 2016, returning to his home country to join Werder Bremen.

And, after a stellar solitary campaign on the books of Die Werderaner, Bayern Munich subsequently came calling in 2017, securing Gnabry’s signature for just 8 million Euro.

Gnabry was then farmed out on loan to Hoffenheim to further his first-team experience for the 2017/18 season, and has since gone from strength to strength, now playing a key role for Bayern since his return to the Allianz Arena last summer.

Bayern’s finest

All told, this past season, Gnabry racked up 42 appearances across all competitions (30 starts).

Across these showings, the German attacker, who has also notched a staggering 7 goals in 8 appearances for Die Mannschaft, directly contributed to 19 goals.

Gnabry’s direct nature and impressive work-rate saw him quickly emerge as a fan favourite at the Allianz Arena, with the 23-year-old having today been rewarded for his stellar form.

As announced across Bayern Munich’s social media platforms, Gnabry has clinched the Bavarians’ Player of the Season award:

Ribery rewarded

Gnabry’s Bayern teammate Franck Ribery, meanwhile, has picked up the accolade for the Bundesliga Goal of the Season.

The Frenchman appears to have been rewarded largely for sentimental reasons, with his strike, showcased below, having come during Bayern’s 5-1 thumping of Eintracht Frankfurt on the final day of the Bundesliga season, a fixture which also marked Ribery’s final home outing in the club’s colours:
