Former Arsenal star on West Ham’s radar

Sky Sports News are today reporting that West Ham are one of several clubs interested in signing Jack Wilshere.

‘I have no option but to pursue other opportunities’

Wilshere’s current Arsenal contract expires on the 1st of July and after unsuccessful talks with new Arsenal boss Unai Emery, Wilshere is set to leave the Gunners this summer, which he announced via Instagram.

Thanks for the memories

“Following a number of extensive conversations with those at the club, and in particular a recent meeting with the new manager Unai Emery, I felt that I was ultimately left with little choice but to make the decision that I have due to purely footballing reasons.

“I am sure everyone can understand that, at this point in my life and career, I need to be playing regular first-team football and following my meeting with Mr Emery I came away with the feeling that it would be very difficult for me to do so at Arsenal.

“Given this, I feel I have no option but to pursue other opportunities in order to progress my career on the pitch.”

As a result, Wilshere could be set to join West Ham in the coming weeks on a free which would be a decent bit of business for the Hammers.

New look squad

West Ham have recently appointed Manuel Pellegrini as their new boss and Pellegrini is set to be given up to £75 million in order to bring some fresh legs to West Ham.

When appointed West Ham boss, Pellegrini stated:

“West Ham had a difficult season last season and I hope that next season we are going to play football that will delight the fans.

“I always play attacking football and we must try to reach important targets in the season.

“I am excited about this project. My mentality is always to have a winning mentality and I will hope that I can repeat here what I did with all my clubs here in Europe, where I have always arrived in European competition.”

The Hammers have already signed Ryan Fredericks, Issa Diop and Lukas Fabianski but they are still looking to improve upon their squad this summer.

Given his experience, Wilshere could well be the perfect signing for Pellegrini’s new look West Ham side and could join the likes of Felipe Anderson who is close to joining the Hammers.
