Per Mertesacker has this evening revealed his opinion that Arsenal are well-placed to clinch this season’s Europa League title.
Arsenal 2-0 Napoli
Unai Emery’s men welcomed Serie A outfit Napoli to the Emirates last Thursday, for the first-leg of the Europa League quarter-final tie between the clubs.
And, when all was said and done in North London, the Gunners positioned themselves excellently to secure their spot in the competition’s final-4.
Aaron Ramsey’s early opener was followed by a 25th-minute own goal from Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, to eventually see Arsenal emerge with an impressive 2-0 win.
As such, ahead of the tie’s 2nd-leg in 2 days’ time, the Premier League giants are viewed as clear favourites to advance.

And one individual who feels as though Arsenal have what it takes to not only push past Napoli, but to go all the way in the Europa League this season, is former Gunners’ stopper Per Mertesacker.
Speaking in an interview with Goal earlier today, the German chimed in on Arsenal’s European endeavours.
When questioned on whether he feels as though Emery’s men can win the Europa League, Mertesacker responded:
”The team is in the midst of the fight for the top four in the league, has the Europa League and has grown throughout these experiences.’
On the Gunners’ upcoming 2nd-leg clash with Napoli, Mertesacker continued:
‘The first leg was great. But in Naples – the city, the fans, the special atmosphere – it can quickly go in the other direction.’
‘We are glad that we did not concede a goal. Nevertheless, the chances for the semi-final are good – and we have to make up for that after last year’s elimination.’
