David De Gea & Real Madrid
One of the upshots of the latest rounds of rumours linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a possible return to Manchester United has been that claims David De Gea could join Real Madrid have been revived.
The De Gea story has been around for several seasons, while the deal almost happened in 2015.
La Roja international keeper De Gea has long been thought to want to move back to his homeland, while his partner, pop star Edurne, continues to live Spain.
In 2015, the De Gea deal collapsed in the final moments of the summer transfer window amid stories of broken a fax machine.
Florentino Perez talks
But, according to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who this week won the election to continue in his position, rumours linking Real with De Gea are wide of the mark.
Instead, Perez has confirmed plans to continue with Keylor Navas during his interview with radio station Onda Cero on Monday night. He said:
We haven’t spoken to De Gea. Two years ago we had an issue and then the appropriate circumstances didn’t arise.
The players are very fond of Keylor and also the coach. I like Keylor Navas.
So can we finally put this rumour to bed?
