FIFA have opened a disciplinary hearing case against Dele Alli, world football’s governing body has announced.
FIFA couldn’t give move detail on the matter and their official statement was brief.
“We can confirm that disciplinary proceedings have been opened following this incident. Please understand we cannot comment further at this stage,” a FIFA spokesperson said on Friday.
Alli is in trouble over a gesture made while playing for England in the recent international break.
England’s two wins in the past week make them clear favourites in their World Cup qualifying Group F.
Dele’s England teammate Jamie Vardy believes the hype over the gesture is ridiculous. Vardy said that it was only banter.
Vardy also said it was brandished at his England teammate and former Spurs colleague Kyle Walker, rather than at the referee, an opponent or the crowd.

England boss Gareth Southgate has also come to the defence of his player, but FIFA aren’t buying the excuses.
“Kyle and Dele were mucking about, and Dele’s made a gesture towards Kyle,” Southgate said.
“I don’t know what the angle picked up by the camera is, so I don’t know if that is clear. The pair of them have a strange way of communicating but that’s what they’ve said when it’s been raised.”
