Fernandinho banned after Man United
Not only did Man City lose the Manchester derby.
Not only did Man City miss out on the chance to win the Premier League by beating their fiercest rivals.
Not only did Man City lose their second match on the bounce, conceding three goals on each occasion.
Man City have also lost midfielder Fernandinho for two matches after the Man United defeat.
In the 79th minute, the Brazilian enforcer picked up a booking after a challenge with Jesse Lingard.
Fernandinho, together with Vincent Kompany, sent Lingard crashing to the deck under the nose of the referee.
It’s worth saying this foul came moments after Ashley Young took out Sergio Aguero in the United box. No penalty was given.
Following the Lingard foul, Fernandinho was shown the yellow card.
It was his 10th booking of the Premier League season.
Tottenham & Swansea: Man City star suspended
Fernandinho will now miss Man City’s next two Premier League matches.
Next weekend the Sky Blues take on Tottenham at Wembley. After that it’s a home match against Swansea City.
Had Fernandinho had avoided a booking, he’d only have missed one game if he’d been booked against Tottenham.
Fernandinho was booking in City’s 31st Premier League game of the season.
Under the FA suspension rules, “there are cut-off dates for receiving a sanction as a result of accumulated cautions.”
One of those cut-off dates is gameweek 32, however Fernandinho failed to hold out for one more week. As such, he received an automatic second game suspension for his yellow cards.
Largely overlooked/lost amid the chaos and excitement of last night but Fernandinho is now suspended for the Spurs and Swansea games after picking up his 10th PL booking #MCFC
