Rio Ferdinand: ‘Sergio Aguero is the best striker in the Premier League. I’d take him ahead of Harry Kane’

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has revealed his opinion that Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is a superior player to Tottenham star Harry Kane.

Matchup

Aguero’s City went head to head with Chelsea in the Community Shield this afternoon, in the annual curtain-raiser ahead of the beginning of the new Premier League season.

The fixture featured the added talking points of being Maurizio Sarri’s first competitive game in charge of Chelsea, as well as Jorginho’s competitive debut for the Blues, after he spent much of the transfer window on the verge of joining City.

Teams

Dominant

In the end, this afternoon’s clash didn’t prove much of a contest, as Pep Guardiola’s City dominated proceedings at Wembley from start to finish, eventually emerging with a 2-0 win.

Both of the Citizens’ goals came courtesy of Sergio Aguero, who acted as a constant thorn in the side of Chelsea’s backline over the course of the 90 minutes:

‘The best’

In the aftermath of the matchup, much of the discussion surrounded City laying down an early marker to the rest of the Premier League with their superb performance, with Man of the Match Sergio Aguero having been singled out for special praise by both fans and pundits alike.

And one such pundit to have waxed lyrical regarding not only the Argentine’s showing today, but his talents in general, is Rio Ferdinand.

Speaking on BT Sport following the clash, Ferdinand went as far as to claim that Aguero is the best striker currently plying his trade in the Premier League, confirming that he would ‘take him ahead of Harry Kane’:
