Graeme Souness on Tottenham’s Harry Kane
Spurs are in action on Sunday as they take on Liverpool at Anfield.
Ahead of the game, Graeme Souness has penned his latest weekly column in the Sunday Times. Souness has focused his attentions on Harry Kane.
In statements which will tick off Tottenham fans, Souness is intent on explaining why Kane should join Real Madrid.
Of course, while that deal has been floated and bandied about for months, is there any real danger of Kane leaving Spurs right now?
That feels unlikely for a few reasons.
One, most believe Kane still feels hugely committed to Tottenham for helping him in his career.
Two, next season Tottenham will move into their new stadium.
Three, many still believe Spurs can prove themselves by winning a major honour like the Premier League or Champions League.
Off to Real Madrid?
Yet Souness believes Kane is right for Real Madrid.
And he also thinks that Los Blancos should pull the trigger on the England international. Readers are told:
I believe that Harry Kane should leave for Real Madrid this summer, if he gets the chance. The fee Real will have to pay for Kane will start with a two and be followed by eight zeros. I reckon that he could become the first £200m player.
They will pay that premium because putting the ball in the back of the net regularly is the hardest thing to do in football and, given his age, Kane should only get better.
Fears ‘Tottenham will do an Arsenal’
Souness also voiced his concern that Tottenham’s new stadium build my not pan out as the club are hoping.
The pundit compares Spurs to Arsenal. The Gunners left Highbury to move into the Emirates Stadium a while back, but have the good times flowed?
Souness warned Kane of the following:
As a London club moving to a new stadium next season, Tottenham should be able to attract and keep the best players. Yet it reminds me of Arsenal moving to the Emirates, supposedly to join the elite. They’re further away from it now than when they left Highbury.
Kane will be waiting to see what moves Tottenham make this summer.
