Arsene Wenger celebrates v Manchester City

Arsenal star picked up an injury vs Southampton

Southampton 1 – Arsenal 1

In the end Arsenal salvaged a point at St Mary’s on Sunday.

Olivier Giroud came off the bench to head Arsenal level in the final minutes against Southampton.

Giroud directed a glancing header from an Alexis Sanchez into the far corner of Fraser Forster’s net.

Southampton had taken a third minute lead against the Gunners through Charlie Austin.

Austin, scoring his fourth goal in three games, punished Per Mertesacker after he gave away the ball at the back.

Aaron Ramsey injured?

In the final stages of the game, Arsenal fans started to fear the worst for Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

Arsene Wenger used up all three of his subs trying to find a leveller on the south coast.

So when Ramsey started moving gingerly around the pitch in the last minutes of the match, Wenger was unable to take him off.

It looked as if Ramsey pulled his hamstring against the Saints.

UPDATE: Ramsey’s hamstring injury confirmed by Wenger.

In the worst case scenario, Ramsey could be sidelined for two to three weeks, however it’s too early at this stage to make any firm statements on this matter.

Arsenal’s next fixtures

Arsenal moved up to fifth in the table, a point above Tottenham, after the Southampton draw.

On Wednesday night the Gunners make the short trip across London to take on West Ham. Next Saturday Arsenal welcome Newcastle to the Emirates Stadium before the League Cup semifinal with West Ham.

On December 22 the Gunners face off against Liverpool at home.

While Wenger closes out 2017 with games against Crystal Palace (a) and West Brom (a).
