Pep Guardiola has hit back at Jurgen Klopp’s claims that Manchester City are Premier League favourites by claiming it doesn’t make a difference to him.
He noted that it’s always been the case that his sides have been favoured and that it isn’t an issue for him at all.
Guardiola also reminded Klopp, the media and the fans that he also won the treble at Barcelona, and there’s a good reason his side are favourites.
Sky Sports report he said: “Since nine years I live with that situation, it’s no problem.
“Since nine years, every season – except the first when I arrived at Barcelona.
“We won the triple and, since then, we are the favourites, so thank you – you are so kind!”
Man City hopes
Pep made it clear that City are looking forward to the season, and that they have big plans.
As with last season, the club are set to take things game by game, and make sure they don’t let their emotions or the expectations run away with them.
He also noted that the chance to do a 100 point season may present itself again – and if it does, they must be ready for it.
He carried on: “That is not the target, the target is tomorrow, then Huddersfield [on August 19] – in April, May we will see how is our level.
“I am not focused on back-to-back. If we play good and are consistent like last season, we have a chance to repeat.”
