José Antonio Iniesta, the father of Barcelona midfielder Andres, has this afternoon assured fans of the Blaugrana that they need not worry about his son departing the club next summer.
Iniesta, who joined Barcelona’s youth academy in 1996, has spent his entire professional career to date in Catalonia.
The classy midfield dynamo has since gone on to make over 400 La Liga appearances for Barca, cementing himself as one of the greatest players in the long and storied history of the club.
However, despite it having previously been assumed that Iniesta would see out his career as a Blaugrana player, heavy links with an exit from the club have come to the fore over recent months, with just one year left on the 33-year-old’s contract at the Camp Nou.
Italian giants Juventus, along with a number of Premier League sides, were reported to be keeping tabs on the situation, with numerous outlets claiming that Iniesta was becoming increasingly frustrated with the questionable decisions of the board in Catalonia.
However, speaking in an interview with Spanish TV station Cuatro, Iniesta’s father, Jose Antonio, revealed that his son plans to finish his career with Barca.
‘My son can give 2-3 more seasons at Barca. There is no problem with the renewal. Andres will never wear a shirt other than Barca’s.’
