Fans react as Anthony Martial & Paul Pogba are benched vs Liverpool

Man United to take on Liverpool

Manchester United are set to take on Liverpool in the 4 pm kick-off on Sunday, December 16th.

United head into the game 6th in the league and a fair way away from the top four.

However, with Wolves, Everton and West Ham all breathing down United’s neck, they are in need of a win.

That will not come easy for Mourinho’s side though as they are taking on an unbeaten Liverpool side.

Despite losing in the League Cup and Champions League, Liverpool are undefeated in 16 Premier League games this season and will go top if they beat United.

Martial & Pogba only make the bench

So, given what a tough game it is likely to be vs Liverpool, you would think Jose Mourinho would want to play his best XI.

While Victor Lindelof returning is a huge boost for United, two big names have only made the bench.

Those two players are Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba.

Martial has been by far United’s best attacker this season.

The Frenchman is their top scorer, netting seven in the league this season.

Therefore, it would seem wise for Mourinho to start him vs Liverpool. But Mourinho has instead opted to start Ashley Young left midfield in place of Martial.

Young was a left mid earlier in his career but has spent much of the last few seasons as a full-back.

Fans react

As a result, some United fans have taken to Twitter to express their displeasure at United’s line-up.
