Viewers of this afternoon’s clash between Crystal Palace and Leicester City are convinced that Jamie Vardy had an early goal incorrectly disallowed.
Crystal Palace vs Leicester
The two sides are currently locked in action at Selhurst Park, with hosts Palace having come into proceedings desperate for a win, having picked up just 1 victory from their last 11 across all competitions.
Roy Hodgson’s men sat in 16th in the Premier League table ahead of kick-off, just 2 points clear of the relegation zone.
Leicester, meanwhile, had picked up just a solitary win from their last 5 in the league, though the Foxes nevertheless sat comfortably in 8th-place in the English top-flight before today’s clash.
Palace in front
A relatively-even first-half at Selhurst was brought to a close a short time ago, with hosts Palace having held a 1-goal advantage at the interval.
Luka Milivojević bagged the goal with a superb dipping strike from 20 yards in the 39th-minute.
Vardy strike disallowed
However, Leicester will no doubt have headed into the tunnel at the break feeling as though it was they who should have been in front in London this afternoon.
An incident on the half-hour mark involving Foxes’ hitman Jamie Vardy and Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita saw the latter dwindle too long on the ball, before eventually being dispossessed by Vardy, who subsequently rolled home into the home side’s empty net.
However, much to the frustration of Leicester’s fans and players alike, Vardy’s challenge on Guaita was deemed to have been a foul by referee Michael Oliver, with the English hitman’s strike having been ruled out as a result.
Many viewers, though, were certainly not in agreement with Oliver’s decision, as showcased by the reaction across Twitter in the time since:
Wrong decision for Vardy disallowed goal imo, their goalie is effectively an outfield player in those circumstances and challenge was shoulder to shoulder #LCFC

That’s not a foul for me. Vardy just uses his shoulder. Goal should stand.

Why didn’t Vardy’s goal count?

How is that a foul on Vardy? Keeper takes a woeful touch. He uses his shoulder to pounce on it

Guaita already prepared himself to fall when he took the heavy touch, not a foul at all
