Fabrizio Romano provides latest on Chelsea’s Kai Havertz pursuit

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has today provided a brief update on Kai Havertz’s potential move to Premier League giants Chelsea.

The name of 21-year-old Havertz has of course proven a mainstay in the European media for several weeks now.

Amid another stellar campaign at the BayArena, during which he has racked up 17 goals and 9 assists, the attacking midfielder has been named as a summer target for a whole host of European heavyweights.

The likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United have all been tipped as potential destinations, with Havertz widely regarded as one of world football’s most promising young players.

No club, however, have been more persistently linked with a move for the German starlet than Chelsea.

The Blues are in the process of a major rebuild ahead of the 2020/21 campaign, and have of course already secured the services of both Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

Havertz, meanwhile, appears to be the next piece in Frank Lampard’s potentially potent attacking puzzle, with reports having seen Chelsea tipped for an imminent big-money swoop.

‘Wants to join Chelsea’

Updates on the situation, however, have been in short supply over the last week or so, with Bayer Leverkusen having gotten their Europa League campaign back underway last night.

But, as outlined above, fresh information has been forthcoming today, courtesy of the most reliable of sources.

After Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick confirmed that the Bavarians will not be the club to lure Havertz away from the BayArena, Fabrizio Romano provided a further insight.

The Italian reporter assures that the midfield starlet has his sights set firmly on Chelsea, with talks currently underway over a potential deal.

A transfer is unlikely to be forthcoming before Leverkusen’s European endeavours come to an end, with an €80 million fee touted.

Bayern, meanwhile, would only reenter the race for Havertz in the case that the 21-year-old remains in Germany until next summer.
