Fabinho’s move to Man United looks like it could be back on

Collapsed move

Manchester United didn’t manage to sign Fabinho in the summer but a January move could be on the cards, according to reports from Italy. The AS Monaco midfielder has impressed in the opening weeks of the season.

He rose to prominence in their swashbuckling title win last season. Linked with many clubs, United appeared to be the main contenders for his signature. As Monaco sold off prized assets, a move looked inevitable.

Interviews Fabinho gave appeared to hint at an Old Trafford transfer. He would answer questions about Jose Mourinho and United coyly. It appeared as though the open secret made him happy, leading to a broad grin.

PSG interest

Alas, it didn’t happen. Paris Saint-Germain stepped up their interest when United appeared to pull out. At one stage, it looked as though they had a deal in place to sign both Kylian Mbappe and Fabinho.

Then Monaco decided against selling two of their star players to the same direct rival. But Calcio Mercato claims that this doesn’t mean Fabinho is wedded to the club. United are considering a £52m offer for the Brazilian.

United start

The way United have started the season will undoubtedly catch the eye of big-name players. One of the reasons players have turned down United in the last few years is because they haven’t been challenging for titles.

However, three 4-0 wins from their first five Premier League games would hint that the United of old are back. Mourinho’s attack has been lethal in front of goal with new signing Romelu Lukaku particularly hot.

The Belgian forward, signed from Everton for an initial £75 million, has scored seven goals in his first seven games in a United shirt. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have also been among the goals in the opening weeks.
