Explanation provided for Christian Pulisic’s late withdrawal from Chelsea XI to face Burnley

An explanation for Christian Pulisic’s late omission from Chelsea’s starting line-up to take on Burnley has been forthcoming online.

Blues on top

Frank Lampard’s men are currently locked in action with the Clarets at Turf Moor.

The clash marks a return to domestic competition for Chelsea, after the capital giants, on the back of a patchy spell of form, got things back on track in Europe during the week.

A Champions League meeting with Krasnodar in Russia saw the visitors emerge with a dominant 4-0 win, with the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Timo Werner on target.

As such, Lampard no doubt guided his side into proceedings this afternoon desperate to keep this upturn in form alive.

And, as things stand, this is precisely what the Blues are on their way to doing.

A Hakim Ziyech strike with 26 minutes on the clock has seen Chelsea head in at the interval a goal to the good, amid a fine all-round display.

Pulisic concern

As outlined above, however, an otherwise positive afternoon’s work thus far has been soured ever so slightly for Chelsea by a blow on the personnel front.

The Pensioners’ initial starting XI at Turf Moor included all of Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Hakim Ziyech, Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic, as Frank Lampard made clear his intent to attack Sean Dyche’s Clarets:

Just minutes before kick-off, however, a last-minute alteration was forthcoming.

The change in question saw wide-man Pulisic withdrawn from Chelsea’s line-up, to be replaced by Timo Werner.

The Blues’ initial announcement regarding the switch did not include an explanation.

But, as outlined above, further information regarding the situation has since been forthcoming.

As revealed by the reliable Nizaar Kinsella, amongst others, Pulisic picked up an injury during the visitors’ warm-up at Turf Moor.

The exact issue, or extent of the problem for that matter, have not yet been revealed, though an update is expected following the full-time whistle this evening.
