Never judge a book by its cover
One former Manchester United star has recalled the time that he writ Cristiano Ronaldo off when the forward joined the Old Trafford side.
Cristiano joined the club from Sporting and much was made of his potential.
The Portuguese star was looking to be the next big thing and eventually took the Premier League and the world by storm.
He has certainly continued to do that and gripped the headlines for his performance against Juventus this week.
The player scored one of the best goals in recent history to almost secure Real Madrid’s place in the next round of the Champions League.
Though, that was all not before he had already been written off by some of his Manchester United teammates.
One of those at the time was Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
The Dutch star was one of the main men at Old Trafford and it was known that they didn’t see eye to eye.
Now, the former forward has confirmed he had his doubts but he is certainly not doubting him anymore.
“He came as a young lad but he knew what he wanted to become, and he also said it: ‘I want to be the best player in the world’,” Van Nistelrooy told Goal.
“At the beginning, you think: ‘OK, he’s a young lad – keep dreaming’. But the work-rate and talent he’s combining has made him achieve his goals, and he’s still going strong. It’s fantastic.”
