Philippe Coutinho Brazil World Cup

Ex-Liverpool star Luis Garcia backs Philippe Coutinho to outshine Neymar

Backed

Former Liverpool star Luis Garcia has backed Philippe Coutinho to do just as well as Neymar did at Barcelona before his move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Coutinho left Anfield to move to the Catalan giants in a deal worth in the region of £142million back in January.

While he was unable to fully get going during his first half season at the Camp Nou, he showed big glimpses of what he could do.

He did so at the World Cup too, scoring some huge goals for Brazil and impressing throughout their run.

Next season will be his first full season at Barcelona and there are big things expected of Neymar’s natural heir.

‘They are very similar’

Now, former Liverpool star Luis Garcia has backed Coutinho to reach the levels that Neymar showed at the Camp Nou.

Not only that, he already sees the player as just as effective as Neymar

‘They are different players but he could have the same impact because Coutinho could even score more goals or certainly the same amount,” he explained, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

‘Neymar is good to watch because of the tricks with the ball and the 50 meter runs. But when it comes to how effective they both are, they are very similar.

‘We still have to see how good he is from free-kicks. He was a bit lost in his first few games but he ended up dominating. People are going to see how good he is.’
