Jordan Pickford

Everyone was saying the same thing about Jordan Pickford during Burnley vs Everton

Viewers of this afternoon’s early Premier League kick-off between Burnley and Everton have taken to social media in their numbers to heap praise on Jordan Pickford, after several wonder-saves from the English shot-stopper.

The two sides are currently locked in action at Turf Moor, with hosts Burnley having come into proceedings on the back of a dismal run of no wins from their last 12 across all competitions.

Everton, meanwhile, followed their morale-boosting 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace two weeks ago with a hugely-disappointing 1-0 loss at the hands of Watford last time out.

Entertaining affair

The early proceedings of this afternoon’s clash saw both sides exchange chances, with Burnley controlling the majority of possession but Everton looking dangerous on the break.

And the away side’s intent in attacking areas paid dividends in the 20th-minute, as Seamus Coleman flicked on Theo Walcott’s cross, allowing Cenk Tosun to drive home his first goal in Everton colours on his 5th league appearance for the Toffees.

And the visitors held onto their lead until ten minutes into the second-half, when Ashley Barnes latched onto Matt Lowton’s perfect through ball to smash past Jordan Pickford at his near post.

However, while Pickford’s decision to stay on his line may have been questionable on this occasion, the scoreline would have looked a far more worrying one for fans of Everton had it not been for the young shot-stopper, with the former Sunderland man having pulled off several top-class saves to this point in the clash.

One particular stop from an Ashley Barnes header during the first-half left the Clarets hitman in genuine shock, with viewers of today’s fixture having since taken to Twitter in their droves to insist that Gareth Southgate would be making a mistake in leaving the former Sunderland man out of his starting lineup at this summer’s World Cup:
