Everyone laughs at one PSG star following CL exit

Viewers of this evening’s clash between PSG and Real Madrid have taken to social media to poke fun at Dani Alves, after the defender’s mistake set his side on their way out of this season’s Champions League.

Giants collide

Los Blancos welcomed their big-spending opponents to the Bernabeu for the first-leg of their Champions League last-16 tie 3 weeks ago, eventually emerging with a 3-1 victory courtesy of a double from Cristiano Ronaldo and a late Marcelo strike.

The two sides went head to head at the Parc des Princes for the tie’s 2nd-leg tonight, with PSG without talisman Neymar, and Real starting without any of Gareth Bale, Isco, Toni Kroos or Luka Modric.

The opening 45 minutes saw clear-cut chances few and far between, with PSG controlling the majority of possession, but Karim Benzema presented with the best goalscoring opportunity of the half in an angled 1-on-1 with Alphonse Areola.

However, the early moments of the second-half saw one crucial mistake prove incredibly costly for the hosts, as Real put the tie to bed.

The mistake came courtesy of PSG full-back Dani Alves, who gave the ball away cheaply to Marco Asensio on the halfway-line, before Asensio eventually cut back to lay a gorgeous disguised pass into the path of Lucas Vazquez, who in turn picked out Cristiano Ronaldo for a bullet header at the back post.

Not only did Alves surrender possession ahead of the goal, but replays also showed that the Brazilian veteran was nutmegged by Asensio’s pass to Vazquez.

And Alves, who’s statements that he departed Juventus for PSG during the summer to win the Champions League saw more than a few eyebrows raised, has since been torn into online, with the best of the roundup below:

Edinson Cavani did manage to pull one back for PSG in the 70th-minute, but Casemiro’s deflected strike 10 minutes from time sucked any of the remaining enthusiasm out of the Parc des Princes.

The clash ended 2-1, with Real emerging with a 5-2 aggregate win.
