Liverpool 4 – Barcelona 0
Against all the odds, against all the predictions, Liverpool staged one of the all-time great Champions League comebacks against Barcelona at Anfield on Tuesday.
Barcelona were 3-up from the semi-final first-leg.
Had the Catalans scored at Anfield, Liverpool would have needed five goals to progress.
But Barcelona didn’t score. Alisson made a series of top-class saves, while Leo Messi disappeared as the night unfolded.
As for Liverpool, Divock Origi is etching his name into club folklore.
After bagging winners in the league against Everton and Newcastle already this season, Origi scored twice against Barcelona.
Gini Wijnaldum also bagged a brace – two goals in two second half minutes – as Liverpool turned the tie.

Everyone heard what Mo Salah said to James Milner
Liverpool, of course, had significant injury problems against Barcelona.
Naby Keita was missing in midfield, while Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino were injured in attack.

But after the match ended, the Egyptian appeared to reveal how little belief he actually had in Liverpool’s ability to turn the tie around.
Amongst the post match scenes in the Reds’ dressing room, Salah was filmed asking James Milner if he’d already booked his summer holiday.

Liverpool’s season will now end on June 1st, when they compete in the Champions League final.
This is the second successive season Liverpool have played in the showpiece. Last year they lost to Real Madrid in the final.
