Everton’s Richarlison missed Brazil’s Copa quarter-final with mumps – AS

Brazil vs Paraguay

Brazil would take on Paraguay in the early hours of Friday morning in the quarter-final of the Copa America.

Brazil had just eased through the group stages, winning two and drawing one of their three group games. They also kept clean sheets in all three of those games.

So, when they faced Paraguay in the last eight, you would have thought it would be a pretty easy tie for Brazil.

Paraguay would also be down to 10 men from the 58th minute.

Despite this advantage, Brazil would fail to break down Paraguay’s defence and had to take them all the way to penalties.

Gabriel Jesus and Alisson would be the heroes of the shootout, with Brazil coming away 4-3 winners.

Brazil would be the first side to book their place in the semi-finals, with Venezuela and Argentina set to face off later today.

Richarlison has mumps

One player who didn’t feature at all for Brazil versus Paraguay was Richarlison.

The Everton forward started in Brazil’s first two group games of the 2019 Copa America, and was on the bench for the third.

However, Spanish outlet AS have reported that Richarlison was omitted from the matchday squad versus Paraguay due to having mumps.

Richarlison is said to be being kept in isolation due to the contagiousness of the illness.

The 22-year-old had a solid 2018/19 season with Everton, in which he scored 14 goals and assisted two in 34 league outings.
