Director of football goes in-depth about signings
Everton’s director of football Marcel Brands has discussed the club’s summer transfer dealings further, including Alex Iwobi, Fabian Delph and Moise Kean.
The Toffees did some really impressive business over the summer.
Despite being unable to land Kurt Zouma, Everton plugged a lot of holes in the current squad.
The Blues have been in need of a top-class centre-forward for some time now, and Moise Kean represents an adequate replacement for Romelu Lukaku, two years after he left Goodison.
Everton also bought a creative player in Alex Iwobi, with chance creation a big problem in the last campaign.
The signings of Fabian Delph, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Djibril Sidibé also allowed for greater squad depth.
Now, after the transfer window shut, director of football Marcel Brands has given an insightful interview on Everton’s dealings.
A look into Everton’s transfer plans
Starting with Moise Kean, Brands revealed that the Toffees actually moved for him on loan in January.
However, they were not able to get a deal done at the time.
“We spoke about a possible loan in winter, to bring him in in the first of the year,” Brands explained in an interview with Everton TV.
“In the end that was not possible and he started playing at Juventus.
“He’s young, we have to give him time but I am really confident he will have a good future here.”
Brands then spoke about Iwobi, and how the Englishman brings competition in attacking midfield, as well as on the wings.
“In our team we do not have much competition for Gylfi Sigurdsson, but we have managed that now with Alex,” Brands continued.
“The most important thing is he has goals and assists in his game and that is something we were looking for.”
A short video that went a long way
On another one of his summer signings, Brands revealed that a short video convinced Fabian Delph to join Everton.
The Dutchman claims that the video explained a bit about the club, their plans and just how the player would fit in.
“He brings some character and leadership that we could use in the dressing room and on the pitch,” Brands explained.
“After speaking with him on the plans for this club, he got very excited.
“We went to his home and had prepared a short video to show him how he could fit in at Everton, and after that his agent called us to say the player was very excited.”
