Diego Costa scores vs Southampton

Everton were willing to spend £70million on Diego Costa

Ludicrous money

Everton were reportedly willing to spend £70million on signing wantaway signing Diego Costa from Chelsea but he was clear in his choice of Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish striker refused to return to the club during the summer after manager Antonio Conte made it clear that the forward was not in his plans.

Costa continued to refuse to return to the club after the season started and forced Chelsea’s hand into selling him.

The two clubs were unable to agree a deal in the past transfer window but a deal would not have made a difference with Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban.

That means that the club cannot play Costa until at least the January transfer window, meaning there was no rush to get a deal done between clubs.

Though, Costa wanted a deal done as soon as possible so that he could leave London for Madrid.

It could have been very different though after reports on Sunday claimed that Everton made it clear to Chelsea they would offer £70million.

Unfortunately for them, it was clear from Costa that the only destination that he wanted as Atletico Madrid.

That meant that a deal was impossible even if Chelsea would rather have sold to Everton for a fee which could have been £15million more than Atletico’s.

Costa must now wait until January before he can return to the pitch with his beloved Atletico Madrid.
