Everton want to sign Wigan striker Joe Gelhardt – Sun

Everton linked with Gelhardt

Everton have, this weekend, been linked with Wigan forward Joe Gelhardt.

17-year-old Gelhardt is a product of Wigan’s youth system.

Despite his age, Gelhardt has begun to work his way into Wigan’s first-team picture this campaign.

The young Englishman has made 12 appearances for Wigan in the Championship this term, finding the back of the net once.

Gelhardt would start only one of those 12 outings for the Championship side.

But despite his limited experience, it looks as though the England under-18 international is attracting some interest from the Premier League.

According to the Sun, Everton want to sign the Wigan forward.

The report from the Sun doesn’t mention a potential transfer fee for Gelhardt. But it does claim that he has been dubbed the ‘new Wayne Rooney’.

The Sun also alleges that Everton’s Director of Football Marcel Brands is desperate to sign the young striker.

Everton see off Crystal Palace

Everton were in action against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park this weekend.

The Toffees’ form has improved greatly since the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti at the back end of 2019.

Everton had lost just one league tie under the Italian before Saturday, and that defeat came at the hands of Manchester City.

So, when Everton welcomed a struggling Crystal Palace to their ground on Saturday, they were likely confident of a positive result.

Bernard would get Everton off to a solid start vs the Eagles, putting them 1-0 up in the 18th minute.

Palace would eventually equalise in the 51st minute after an error from Jordan Pickford.

But Richarlison regained Everton their lead just seven minutes later, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin putting the result beyond doubt in the 88th minute.

Everton are now up to 7th in the PL, one point adrift of 6th placed Tottenham.
