Everton plotting ambitious move
Everton will reportedly hold talks with recently sacked manager Carlo Ancelotti, after his Napoli dismissal on Tuesday evening.
Ancelotti was sacked by the Italian club having just beaten KRC Genk 4-0 in the Champions League, securing their place in the knockout stages.
However, their league form has been less than impressive.
Napoli have failed to win in their last five Serie A games, and are way behind in the title race, sat 17 points behind leaders Inter Milan.
Napoli have also had off-field issues over the past month or so.
After a poor run of form, president Aurelio De Laurentiis ordered what is known in Italy as a ‘ritiro’, meaning players would live with each other either at a hotel or their training ground until the next fixture.
However, the players did not show, and Napoli even threatened legal action against their own players.
Despite Ancelotti’s sacking, though, he could find himself in another job very soon.
Can Everton convince Ancelotti to join?
According to Sky Sports, Everton will hold contract talks with Ancelotti this week.
The Toffees have been without a manager since Marco Silva was sacked following the 5-2 loss to Liverpool last week.
Club icon Duncan Ferguson took charge against Chelsea on Saturday, with Everton winning 3-1.
As reported by Sky: ‘Everton will begin contract talks with Carlo Ancelotti after he was sacked as Napoli manager on Tuesday evening.’
Despite that, they also claim that ‘David Moyes could still return to Goodison Park in an interim role, while a new permanent manager is put in place.’
There’s no indication of whether Ancelotti would be interested in the job, but the fact that he’s willing to talk is a boost for Everton.
They travel to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
